FIrst and Grandview Area Plan

THE NEED

The First & Grandview District has been experiencing growth and change for all 100+ years of its history. Cultural and technological changes affecting consumer retail combined with businesses embracing work-from-anywhere models are impacting downtowns everywhere. Additionally, investments in city infrastructure in this area will be required in the coming years. Therefore, as we approach the centennial anniversary of the Bank Block, City leaders recognize that now is the time to plan for a vibrant and charming future for the heart of our community. Creating a thoughtful, modern vision that builds on the authentic character of this District will enable investments that become our enduring legacy for generations to come.

Authentic and charming, the vibrant heart of Grandview Heights has developed organically over more than a hundred years. This spring and summer, join us as we study its current conditions, identify opportunities for improvement and craft forward-looking plans that will become our community legacy. Want to participate? Continue reading further below!

THE APPROACH

Local consulting firm planning NEXT, founded in Grandview Heights over 25 years ago, has been engaged to help us discover our vision, and to develop a framework plan to guide public and private investment in this District over the next 10 or more years.

What will we be studying? Everything!

THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE

The City is planning an extensive engagement process, to include the community at large, nearby residents, businesses and landowners along these corridors, and our community institutional and organizational partners including the Schools and Library, the Historical Society, Destination Grandview and the Tri-Village Chamber Partnership. The City's various Boards and Commissions will also be engaged, with the City's Planning Commission ultimately charged with approving the plan and recommending it to City Council for adoption.

At this time, a Community Engagement Group has been formulated, including everyone who submitted an application of interest. This group is charged with committing to participating in all four planned community-wide open houses, encouraging others to attend and participate, as well, helping to distribute information about the study throughout the process, and serving as hosts for some events. Broadly, this group is meant to help us make sure that as many people know about and actively participate with this study effort as possible.

Related, please plan to attend the upcoming Open Houses! Dates and other information are available under the "Process" section of this webpage. And for those who cannot attend, be sure to check back soon after each event for opportunities to participate digitally, via surveys or other tools that will be made available. Currently available engagement tools will be listed below:
