Our community thrives through collaborative planning.
Through the late 1800s and early 1900s, Grandview Heights grew from a small community into a village (1906), and then into a small city (1931). Through the vision and collaboration of early community leaders, and later through several annexations, planning has allowed the City to grow in a thoughtful way that has prioritized its pedestrian scale, resulting in the high quality of life that we enjoy today.
The City thrived until the early 2000s, when the closure of the Big Bear warehouse and headquarters complex necessitated a new era of planning and community building. Between 2004 and 2022, planning for Grandview Yard and Grandview Crossing allowed for the transformation of prior industrial brownfield areas of our community, bringing about a new era of prosperity for Grandview Heights. These developments enabled the City to rebuild our community parks, municipal pool and other facilities, as well as covering the majority of the costs associated with the schools' recent major reconstruction project.
This transformation continues, with additional opportunities to improve our historic downtown district and our remaining industrial areas, which will in turn continue to support our schools, our library, our parks and the city as a whole. As Central Ohio continues to grow, our landlocked community continues to evolve. Community planning is ever more important, to make sure our community continues to thrive so that future generations may also enjoy the quality of life we enjoy today.
